To honor the 10th anniversary of the attacks on 9/11, author and retreat leader Barbara Crafton will speak at the Saint Luke's Discovery from 9 to 10 a.m. in the Parish Hall on Sept. 11.

Crafton was in New York City that fateful day, working at her church, St. Clement's in the Theatre District. She and her parishioners held night-long volunteer shifts, offering refuge and comfort to police, firefighters, construction workers and mourners during the long months after. Out of her searing experience, Barbara Crafton wrote a book, "Mass in Time of War," a powerful and healing meditation on the events of 9/11, based on the familiar parts of the mass.

Crafton asks "What does it mean to sing, `Glory to God in the highest, and peace to all people on earth,' while those same people are killing each other, often in the name of God? What does it mean to pray, `Lord have mercy,' in a world where mercy seems in all too short supply?"

All are welcome to hear Crafton address these questions.
