The choir and soloists of Saint Luke's Parish, accompanied by a string ensemble, will offer the Mass in G by classical composer Franz Schubert at the 10 a.m. service on Sunday, Feb. 12.

The public is invited to experience this special choral work in its intended context of worship. Saint Luke's is located at 1864 Post Road in Darien, with entrances and parking accessed from Rings End Road.

Schubert composed this work in 1815 to be used as the music of the weekly celebration of the Eucharist.

"We don't know exactly what occasion prompted Shubert to compose this work, but Shubert knew the services of the Christian church from his days as a choirboy and later as a seminary student," Dr. Neal Campbell, Saint Luke's Director of Music, said. "We also know that liturgical compositions were expected of serious composers in Shubert's Vienna of the early 19th century."

Soloists for Mass in G will be Miranda Wilson and Julia Fuller, senior choristers of Saint Luke's Choir, in addition to the professional members of the choir, Ashley Bell, Joan Fuerstman, Matthew Hill and Arthur Burrows.
