DARIEN — The board of education has appointed a new secretary following the resignation of one of their longtime members.

Kathrine Stein, a five-year board veteran, will now serve as the board secretary following the resignation of Sarah Zuro who served on the board for five years before resigning on Sept. 3.

The board did not vote on any motions to replace Zuro, though the Republican Town Committee endorsed Debra Ritchie, an eight-year member of the Representative Town Meeting (RTM), to fill her spot.

According to her resignation letter, which was also unanonimously approved at the meeting, Zuro left the board to focus on her career.

“I am now pursuing other career based activities that will soon have an impact on my ability to fully serve the community with the same amount of time and commitment that I have been able to give this role for the past five years,” she wrote.
