Senior center activities announced

The following programs are scheduled at the Darien Senior Activities Center, located at the Mather Center, 2 Renshaw Road. The center is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. For information, call 203-656-7490.
Tuesday, Sept. 2, at 12:30 p.m., Art Gottlieb will discuss the USS Nautilus, which was launched Jan. 21, 1954, from Electric Boat in Groton. The first nuclear-powered submarine, Nautilus, traveling beneath the Arctic ice cap on Aug. 3, 1958, became the first ship to reach the geographic North Pole. Decommissioned in 1980, Nautilus has been preserved and is the centerpiece of the USS Nautilus Submarine Museum at Groton.
Tuesday, Sept. 9, at 1 p.m., Cookie Martini will host a conversation about Hollywood.
Monday, Sept. 8, at 12:30 p.m., Anne James, the veterans benefits officer for the 4th District, will discuss with veterans how to obtain services.
Wednesday, Sept. 10, at 12:30 p.m., CT Pharmacy will offer tips on senior eye health.
Friday, Sept. 12, bridge classes begin for intermediate players at 10 a.m. and beginners at 12:30 p.m. Douglas Thompson will lead the intermediate bridge class. Thompson is a Silver Life Master, placing him among the top 10 percent players in the United States. He is an American Contract Bridge League certified instructor and game director.
Thompson also will lead the beginner bridge class. The goal is for everyone to play two hands at each session. For information, email email@example.com.
The wood shop donation program will begin in October. Wood shop volunteers will repair small items, such as chairs, drawers and tables, at a minimum charge. Items may be brought to the shop Monday or Tuesday between 9:30 and 11:30 a.m.
