Senior couple tries to make off with $140 of Whole Foods groceries

Carlos and Elva Rodriguez, 70 and 67, respectively, of 57 Ward St., Norwalk, were arrested on Sunday, May 12, and charged with sixth-degree larceny and conspiracy to commit sixth-degree larceny.
At approximately 1:54 p.m., officers responded to Whole Foods, 150 Ledge Road, on a reported shoplifting.
Employees said they observed the couple placing grocery items into the wife's large pocketbook and leaving the store without paying for items, valued at $143.10, according to police.
Officers stopped both individuals as they left the store and they acknowledged taking the items as they did not have the necessary money to pay for them.

Both individuals were issued a misdemeanor summons at the scene and are scheduled to appear in court on May 24.
