Special Olympics torch run passes through Darien

Darien and New Canaan police officers helped carry the Special Olympics torch along Route 1 from Greenwich to New Haven Friday morning.

Since Wednesday, more than 1,500 law enforcement officers covered 530 miles in Connecticut running with the Special Olympics' torch.

The run ended Friday evening when officers delivered the torch to Jess Dow Field on the campus of Southern Connecticut State University for the opening ceremonies at 7:15 p.m.

The torch run passed through Ansonia, Monroe, Shelton, Trumbull, Bridgeport, Darien, Fairfield, Greenwich, Milford, Norwalk, Orange, Stamford, Stratford, West Haven and Westport.
