Alexander Cummings, author of "Make Work Better," will discuss his Thrive 9-to-5 Program at the St. Luke's Discovery Hour on Sunday, May 13, from 9 to 10 a.m. in the parish hall.
Cummings says that people can get more fulfillment and success from work by using the virtues at work.
The virtues develop high-level skills that can bring more success and they add fulfillment to work by making the focus of our work something outside ourselves, according to Cummings.
Cummings' presentation will clear up misunderstandings about the virtues and present easy-to-follow steps for using them.
Cummings has worked as a marketing consultant to a number of financial services firms, American Express and Merrill Lynch among them.
He has specialized in making communications clearer, simpler and more action-oriented.
While consulting, Cummings witnessed the development of several corporate values programs and became familiar with their strengths and shortcomings, an experience that strengthened his Thrive 9-to-5 Program.
Most recently, he was vice president of EICEE, an international nonprofit organization that teaches leaders in former communist countries the foundations of a free society and free enterprise.
He has lectured in Europe on character and leadership. Cummings received his MBA from Yale University and his bachelor's degree in economics from Vanderbilt University.
