Susan M. Varney died Friday, Dec. 10, at her home in Darien. She was 89.

Born July 30, 1921, in Brooklyn, N.Y., she was the daughter of Joseph and Claire McNally. She survived her husband, Norman A. Varney, who she married on August 2, 1947.

A resident of Darien since 1963, Mrs. Varney was a volunteer at The Darien Community Association Thrift Shop, and a longstanding member of the Tokeneke Club of Darien.

Mrs. Varney is survived by her brother, Robert McNally of River Edge, NJ, her daughter, Claire A. Varney of Darien, her sons, Robert R. Varney M.D. of San Diego, and Norman A. Varney of Philadelphia and her grandchildren, Joseph, Samuel, Brooke, and Andrew Varney.

A memorial service was held at St. John's Church in Darien Wednesday, Dec. 15.
