Published 3:40 pm, Monday, November 7, 2011
The YWCA Darien/Norwalk has planned its annual Cookies, Cocktails and a Cause Ladies Night Wednesday, Nov. 30, at Good Food Good Things boutique at 865 Post Road in Darien.
Nonmembers and members are invited to attend the cookie swap and cocktail party benefit from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Advance ticket purchase is required at the YWCA Darien/Norwalk website.
Event festivities include a holiday cookie swap (which is optional) and cookie contest for those who bring a recipe, which will be judged by the new baker at Diane Browne Catering. Wine and other beverages will be served, along with hors d'oeuvres prepared by Diane Browne Catering. Women who bring cookies for the swap and contest can take home an assortment of the cookies from other attendees. Attendees can also get a head start on their holiday shopping at Good Food Good Things while they enjoy the festivities. Ten percent of the evening's sales will be donated to the Y.
The centerpiece of the event will be a raffle of prizes, valued at more than $2,000, donated by local merchants, including Barrett Books, Beadz Boutique, Becker Salon in Greenwich, Equinox, Jade Nails, Juliska, Learning Express, Rory's, Runner's Roost and Spree. Women attending can also make donations to the YWCA Darien/Norwalk by purchasing a gift for the YWCA community tree. Raffle tickets and donations can be purchased with cash or checks only.
This is the third year the YWCA Darien/Norwalk has planned this benefit event. Last year's event was held at Palmer's Market and more than 90 women attended, bringing 2,000 cookies and $3,000 in donations to the YWCA and its community service programs.
"We're thrilled that Good Food Good Things offered to host this year's event and so many local merchants generously donated raffle prizes," said Ellen Kirby, executive director of the YWCA. "The proceeds from the raffle and donations to the YWCA Community Tree will help us meet the needs of our community service programs."
