The Tokeneke School PTO recently hosted its annual book fair, which provided students an opportunity to find new books to fill their shelves at home and at school.

The yearly event is a fundraiser to support the enrichment activities at Tokeneke in Darien throughout the year, including author visits, theater presentations and special after-school activities. With a nod to the Sochi Olympics, the fair had an Olympic theme, "Ready, Set, Read!"

This year, each first- to fifth-grade classroom visited the book fair twice. The first visit was to take time to review the new books available so the students could build their "wish lists," and on the second visit, the children returned to purchase books.

Students learned to preview all the many selections, make their wish lists, discuss their choices with teachers and their parents, and then pare down the list to what they finally bought, including some selections off their teachers' wish list for their classroom bookshelves.

Some of the older students were paired with younger "buddies" to help them shop for books suited to their reading levels and interests.

Parents also were invited to shop with their children during the scheduled class times and during family

night.
