The public hunt in Sellecks Woods have been canceled this year at the request of the town.

In a letter to the local media, Darien Deer Management Committee Chairman Kent Haydock said the hunts were canceled at the request of the town and Town Council Wayne Fox.

"We are advised by Town Hall, that Town Attorney, Wayne Fox, has indefinitely suspended the seventh annual deer cull in the public park, Sellecks Woods, pending resolution of certain issues. This does not affect hunting on private land, which accounts for the vast majority of annual deer reduction here," he said.

Haydock noted the private hunting season will continue on through Jan. 31 and residents can call 203-655-7371 for more information on bringing a bow hunter on their land.
