Sandy McDonald and Link Jewett, two veteran harbor commissioners in Darien, were honored for their 20-plus years of service recently at the Noroton Yacht Club.

McDonald served as the former chairman of the Darien Advisory Commission on Coastal Waters and Jewett was the former vice chairman of the same organization.

"McDonald and Jewett were both highly instrumental in helping to secure funding for and initiate the dredging of Darien Harbor's channel in 2001 and have kept the town's leaders informed on important issues dealing with Darien's local waters, promoting safe boating in the process and making sure our town's shorelines reflected the best practices of various state and federal maritime and environmental agencies," Bill Cavers, vice chairman of the commission, said in a release.

First Selectman Jayme Stevenson and Selectmen Susan Marks, Kip Hall and Jerry Nielsen were at the event. Stevenson proclaimed Sept. 4 as Sandy McDonald Day and Sept. 5 as Link Jewett Day in Darien this year.

The Darien Advisory Commission on Coastal Waters meets monthly, and the meeting schedule and associated agendas and minutes are posted on the town website, www.darienct.gov.
