Two Darien store break-ins investigated

An attempted burglary was reported at about 6 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 16, at Mama Camerla's Deli, 1981 Post Road.
A police officer passing by the deli was flagged down by the owner, who reported that someone had attempted to pry open the rear door with a crowbar or similar device, according to the report. The owner discovered the damage to the door at 5:50 a.m. The perpetrator did not gain entry, said police.
Additionally, while investigating that incident, police observed that the rear door to Puritan Variety, 1985 Post Road, was ajar. The rear door had been forced open with a crowbar or similar device, said police.

The forced entry occurred sometime between 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 15, and 6:10 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 16. Whether anything was taken is unknown.
