Paul and Maureen Ferris returned to Darien from Vermont this week to post notices and canvas neighborhoods near I-95 in hopes they might find their missing cat, Smokum.
Three weeks ago, the couple pulled into the Darien Welcome Center on I-95 North at 2:30 a.m. Monday, July 20 to use the restrooms, Maureen Ferris said. An hour and a half later, they discovered their 12-month-old Angora cat was missing from their car.
“It is just heartbreaking not knowing,” Maureen Ferris said. “If we knew she’d been hit and killed it would be one thing, but to think she could be around being fed by someone makes it hard.”
Smokum is a silver grey Angora cat who is about 12 months old and has a red collar. The cat is micro-chipped and is registered with both PetLink and Petkey, Ferris said.
Anyone who finds the cat or has information about it can contact the Ferris at 802-234-9256 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
