The American Red Cross needs volunteers to support blood drives in Connecticut.

Volunteers at blood drives help with donor greeting and registration, as well as serving refreshments to blood donors.

"Volunteering is easy and helps support the collection of lifesaving blood by making donors feel welcome and comfortable," Stephanie Boles, senior director of volunteer engagement with the Connecticut Chapter, said.

The Red Cross collects an average of 135,000 units of blood in Connecticut each year at approximately 3,000 blood drives. "We really need the help of volunteers to make sure we are able to staff drives and support a safe and adequate blood supply," Boles said.

No special skills are needed. The Red Cross will provide training. Basic qualifications include good communication skills, flexibility and friendly personality.

"Staffing a blood drive is a great way to meet new people, keep up with members of your community and support the lifesaving work of the Red Cross," Boles said. "And we don't think you can meet a nicer group of people than Red Cross blood donors."
