Wee Burn Country Club hosted its fourth annual Play for Pink golf charity event on Wednesday Oct. 12.
The turnout for Play for P.I.N.K. -- (Prevention, Immediate diagnosis, New technology and Knowledge) was excellent, according to supporters. Betsy Pfeiffer and Eileen Smith co-chaired the event and Wee Burn offered to host the event. The primary goal of Play for Pink is to raise awareness and funds for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
The organization was established in the early 1990s by women who wanted to do something significant for a friend undergoing treatment for breast cancer and, at the same time, help all women afflicted with the disease. In 2010, Play for Pink presented The Breast Cancer Research Foundation with a check for $3,250,000 bringing PFP's total contribution to $22 million. Play for Pink is dedicated to raising funds through different sporting events, including golf, tennis, paddles tennis, swimming and equestrian games. Bloomberg is the title sponsor of Play for P.I.N.K. and has underwritten the expansion of the tournament and all expenses, thus allowing all monies raised by PFP to go directly to breast cancer research.
