An alleged drunk driving incident led to a trip to the hospital when a woman fell over at the Darien Police Department and knocked herself out.

Karen Marie Alsup, 58, of New York City, was arrested March 30 for driving while intoxicated, risk of injury to a minor and improper turning, police said.

According to the report, Alsup was driving her 2001 Volvo station wagon with her 7-year-old son on Old Kings Highway North at 5:40 p.m. when she drove off the westbound shoulder and struck a mailbox before stopping in a ditch. No one was injured, but officers said they couldn't administer a field sobriety test to Alsup because she couldn't stand on her own. According to the report, she admitted to having consumed half of a bottle of wine.

While officers were processing Alsup, she stood up to move to a bench, fell backward and struck her head and was unconscious for a few minutes, police said. She was transported to Stamford Hospital to be treated, police said.

Alsup posted a $250 bond and was scheduled to appear in court on April 11.
