A 28-year-old female Darien resident lost more than $2,000 in a widespread kidnapping scam, according to police.
On May 6, police said, she spent nearly three hours on a phone call with men who said they kidnapped her brother following a car accident. To release him, she had to wire $1,870 via a MoneyGram, the report stated. She wired $920, then $950, to the men before realizing she was being scammed, police said.
The men ended the call when she demanded to speak to her brother, who she contacted afterward, police said. Her brother was fine and had not been in a car accident or kidnapped, the report stated.
