A Darien teen was arrested for burglarizing a home after the complainant saw a photo online which showed the youth wearing a watch that was allegedly stolen.

Police arrested the 17-year-old male on a warrant for an incident that took place April 15, police said. The complainant called police after he left his apartment in the Avalon complex unlocked and discovered several pieces of jewelry and watches, one of which was valued at $1,995, missing, police said.

The complainant told police he believed a neighbor broke into his apartment because the person would have to be familiar with the apartment since he has two large dogs that would scare a person away, police said.

The complainant found a picture of the youth online at the Darien prom wearing the same watch that was taken from the apartment, police said. After questioning the youth, he admitted to entering the residence and taking the items.

He was charged with third-degree burglary and third-degree larceny, police said. He was released on a promise to appear in court on Friday.
