On Thursday, Sept. 29 at 7 p.m., Darien Library Music Series will present an evening of classical guitar music featuring Bret Williams.

Library staff members will lead discussions about four carefully selected, critically acclaimed, and discussion-worthy books.

On Tuesday, Nov. 29, at 7 p.m., the series will conclude with a special guest lecture by Mark Schenker, of Yale University.

Darien Library presents "Fall Into Art," a series of hands-on programs for children that is designed to stimulate the imagination and inspire creativity.

From cartooning to graphic design, digital art to collage, kids will have the opportunity to explore and celebrate many different forms of art.

Participants will break into two groups to discuss topics using the Raising Our Sons, Raising Our Daughters Parenting Guides by Dr. Kathy Masarie.

Connected Communities, an initiative of Darien's Human Services Planning Council for developmental asset building through meaningful relationships, experiences, skills, and opportunities that benefit all our children.

Beginning in September, Darien Library will again offer "Nutmeg Book Group," a book discussion series for children ages 9 to 12.

The Nutmeg Book Award encourages children in grades 4 to 6 to read quality literature, then vote for their favorite book from a list of 10 nominated titles selected each year by Connecticut librarians, school media specialists and teachers.

In September, Darien Children's Library offers six new iPad 2s loaded with specially-selected apps and high-quality eBooks that support early literacy.

The early literacy kits include interactive storybooks and programs that encourage the acquisition of reading skills in young children in a fun, kid-friendly format.

The Kits may be borrowed for one week and in addition to the iPad, they include information on selecting developmentally appropriate programs for young children.

Parents and children will learn about programs and services for kids and adults, take a tour of the library, and obtain library cards.

"Born to Read," for walkers up to 24 months and their parent or caregiver, is a fast-paced storytime for lively toddlers that includes books, songs, fingerplays and movement.

Children's library chat is a new monthly program at Darien Library where librarians and parents or caregivers can share ideas and questions about great reading materials for kids.
