A Stamford Police car sat outside Westover Elementary School on Monday as classes returned from the Easter holiday.

The district hired an officer to patrol the area around the school on an overtime basis Monday after a Friday evening shooting near the school.

“There’s a need for full-time security, not because of what’s going on in the school but because of what’s going on around the school,” interim Superintendent James Connelly said Monday.
