Estate home in country's most expensive zip code on the market

Atherton is no stranger to multimillion-dollar homes with grand interiors and extensive detailing. Forbes Magazine said in October that the 94027 zip code is the most expensive in the country.
Currently for sale in this affluent enclave is 89 Almendral Ave., a five-bedroom estate home situated on 1.53 acres of level land. Classic detailing such as intricate millwork decorates the $14.88 million home, while the 12-car garage should entice any car collector. The home offers three master suites, and every bedroom has its own en suite bathroom. A koi pond and rock waterfalls are contained inside the gated lot, as is an outdoor kitchen, large terrace and sport court.
"There are countless luxury amenities," said Hanna Shacham of Coldwell Banker. "It's truly a special place to call home."
A circular motor court lined by redwood trees and a lawn leads to the main entrance, while the front door is sheltered beneath a columned portico. Completed in 2006, the home opens to a two-story foyer with inlaid glass panels, iron grillwork in the front door and a marble floor with custom medallion inlay.
The main level hosts a variety of public rooms that cater to every conceivable mood. The stately mahogany paneled library includes plantation shutters, oak floors and a box-beam ceiling, as well as an executive desk.
For more casual gathering or entertaining, the family room hosts a cinema screen, and a riser in the carpeted floor that can provide elevated seating or create a stage.
Cherry cabinets in the dining room provide a place for storing fine china, while the coffered ceiling and French doors opening to a gallery pay homage to classical design.
A bowed wall of windows invites light into the living room, which is also illuminated by wall sconces.
In the kitchen, form and function merge through two islands with granite counters, a six-burner stove, pot filler, warming drawers and steam oven.
Rounding out the lowest level is the first master suite. Its location near the media and family room could make it an ideal guest or au pair suite, Shacham said.
Along with a 12-car finished garage, full bathroom and storage rooms, the lowest level hosts a customized wine cellar with Western Red Cedar shelving.
Outside, a paved bike path winds around the property and passes by the enclosed vegetable garden, shade trees, rock waterfall and koi pond.
Ideal for entertaining, the backyard includes a limestone terrace and an outdoor kitchen with two-burner cooktop, refrigerator and Viking barbecue.
Two master suites plus two additional bedrooms and a study complete the top floor. The second master suite includes a walk-in closet, oversized shower and whirlpool tub. Though not as grand as the master suites, the two smaller bedrooms offer heated floors and frameless glass-enclosed showers in their bathrooms, and the fourth bedroom includes a balcony overlooking the front yard and motor court.
Double doors open to a foyer with skylights and a sitting area in the third master bedroom, which includes a private balcony and marble bathroom as well.
