DARIEN — A stately red brick colonial house sits atop a hill at 11 Tokeneke Trail on a 1.83 acre beautifully landscaped property in the heart of the Tokeneke Association.

The attractive views from inside and outside the house are unobstructed because the utilities are underground in this neighborhood.

The view of the property is further enhanced from inside the house by oversized windows, which also give all the rooms plenty of natural light. The rooms are spacious and adding to their size are the 10-foot ceilings and the open floor plan, which males this house live more like a contemporary than a colonial.

Although the eight-room house was built in 1959 it underwent extensive remodeling and updating in 2014. During that project many features were added to the house and property including a central vacuuming system and custom recessed lighting and chandeliers.

The walls were painted and the hardwood floors were re-finished throughout. Kitchen appliances were upgraded and outside the grounds were extensively landscaped.

Unlike most driveways, which are lined in Belgium block, this long driveway is lined on one side in red brick to match the exterior of the house. The driveway leads to the two-car attached garage.

The steps up to the covered, colonnaded front entrance also comprise red brick as well as bluestone. The entrance is reminiscent of the Roman Pantheon. The front door is framed by decorative leaded glass sidelights and an arched transom. The arches are repeated in the Palladium windows on either side of the front entrance, which opens into a double story foyer.

From the foyer step down into the sunken formal living room, which is open to the formal dining room.

At the back of the living and dining rooms step up into a room brightly lit with natural light through its three walls of windows. It also has French doors into the backyard, adding to the entertainment and outdoor enjoyment value of this 4,041-square-foot house. The entryway from the dining room into the family room is wide and contains built-in shelving for books or art objects.

The family room has a fireplace with a decorative mantel that features dentil and egg and dart molding. Its rear wall has floor-to-ceiling windows and a passageway into another sun-filled space with access to the backyard. This sunroom has a marble floor, floor-to-ceiling Palladium windows capped with keystones, and arched French doors to the bluestone patio and yard. The ceiling in this space has a decorative medallion.

In the kitchen there are granite counters, Carrera marble subway tile backsplash, hardwood floor, walk-in butler’s pantry, high-end appliances including a Sub-Zero refrigerator and Bosch wall oven, and access to the breakfast room, which has chair railing. The sizable mudroom has a wall of wood paneling, a long counter with cabinets, and a door to the patio.

Thehouse has four bedrooms with the master suite on the first floor. Its bath has a marble tile floor and marble counters on the two vanities. One other bedroom is on the first floor and the other two are on the second floor; both with built-in bookshelves and their own full baths.
