Win at the state level in high school cross country, indoor track and outdoor track and you're sure to receive recognition from schools in every corner of Connecticut. Take home hardware at the national level and people are undoubtedly going to take notice from coast to coast.
Darien senior Alex Ostberg, who attended the Nike Elite Running camp this summer in Oregon, has been named as one of 10 high school runners to watch this fall by MileSplit, the nation's premier network for high school track and field and cross country.
Last spring, Ostberg won the national 5K crown with an all-time Connecticut mark of 14:16:61, which also qualified as the second-best time ever at the New Balance National Outdoor meet.
One year ago, Ostberg finished as the 2013 New England boys cross country runner-up. Later, he came in third at the Northeast Regional, which qualified him for the national race in San Diego. Competing against the country's best in high school cross country, the young Darien native finished 11th overall, earning All-American honors. He stands as the sixth-highest ranked returnee from the 2013 Foot Locker Nationals heading into competition this fall.
