Five days after blowing by FCIAC power Greenwich 3-0 in its season opener, the Darien girls soccer team lost by the same margin to another conference foe, Fairfield Warde, Monday outside Darien High School.
The Blue Wave allowed two goals in the first half and placed nine shots in total on Mustang goalie Mollie Kerrigan. Warde's Meredith Nerreau deposited the first score eight minutes into the game on a loose ball in the box. Moments later, Hannah Allen stepped in and doubled her team's lead by besting Darien keeper Kate Fiore. Following intermission, Mustang defender Virginie Larouche tallied the third and final goal on a redirected ball after a corner kick.
The Blue Wave returns to the pitch tomorrow at Norwalk for a 7:15 p.m. kickoff. The team's next home game is scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 23, against Trumbull.
