Ever wondered what it would be like to have your own boat? Already own one and looking for a newer model, or ways to improve the one you’ve got? Want to try kayaking, or discover how to become a better fisherman?

You can learn about all of this and more — even a career in marine services — when the 49th annual Hartford Boat Show cruises into the Connecticut Convention Center on Thursday, Feb. 8. This popular event, which runs through Sunday, Feb. 11, features more than 400 watercraft and is expected to draw over 14,000 visitors.

It’s a good thing this Hartford show lasts four days, because with 125 exhibitors showing everything from kayaks to fishing gear, it’s nearly impossible to catch it all. Family fun is on deck, too, with opportunities to try such activities as paddle boarding.

More than 27 educational sessions will be offered, covering such subjects as building your own boat and the basics of outboard motors. Additional examples include a session called “Ten Top Tips to Catch More Fluke, Sea Bass & Cod,” and another called “Catch Monster Striped Bass from a Kayak.”

Among this year’s new attractions will be “Welcome 2 Our Waters: Destination CT,” an area highlighting shoreside activities, communities and attractions. Thimble Island Brewery, which will host tastings, will be among the new exhibitors there.

Of course all of the latest watercraft will also be part of this show, from fishing vessels and speed boats to luxury cruisers. The event is produced by the Connecticut Marine Trades Association.
