AmeriCares has appointed Katherine Sears of Stamford as senior vice president of Global Medical Assistance and Emergency Response and Gary Leeds of Wilton as chief financial officer and vice president of finance.

In her new position, Sears will oversee the organization's response to devastating natural and man-made disasters, including its Superstorm Sandy relief program. She will also oversee a team of relief workers providing ongoing aid to a network of more than 3,000 health-care facilities in dozens of countries, including the United States.

Leeds will oversee all accounting and financial operations for the nonprofit global health and disaster relief organization.

He previously served as the organization's controller and internal auditor. Prior to joining AmeriCares in 2005, he spent more than 30 years working in public accounting and the private sector. Leeds graduated from Syracuse University with a bachelor's degree in accounting and is a certified public accountant.

AmeriCares is a nonprofit global health and disaster relief organization that delivers medicines, medical supplies and aid to people in need around the world and across the United States. Since it was established in 1982, AmeriCares has distributed more than $11 billion in humanitarian aid to 164 countries.
