Darien Library will host a book drive the weekend of Nov. 18 to 20 to benefit those people who have been displaced due to Hurricane Sandy.

Residents are invited to bring new or gently used books to the library. In conjunction with Literacy in Motion, the library will collect the best escapist novels, children's picture books, and any others residents of the Rockaways, Staten Island or Coney Island would enjoy during this difficult time.

After housing, clean water and warm food, books will go a long way in restoring a sense of normalcy and improving the quality of life of those who are shelter-bound for the foreseeable future, said library officials. The collected books will be donated to Literacy in Motion, which will create pop-up libraries in emergency shelters and food pantries serving Sandy victims.
