NWS test turns into Tsunami Warning
An alert was sent out by the National Weather Service Tuesday warning of a tsuamin in the New York City area.
The warning - intended as a test - was sent out at 8:30 a.m.
“A Tsunami Test was conducted earlier this morning, that did have TEST in the message. We are currently trying to find out how a message went out as a warning. We will update you when we find out more.” the NWS posted on its Facebook page.
The subject line of the alert read: “Tsunami Warning. In effect until 9:28 AM EST.”
Once the message was opened, the alert clearly said it was a test.
“THIS MESSAGE IS FOR TEST PURPOSES ONLY ... THIS IS A TEST TO DETERMINE TRANSMISSION TIMES INVOLVED IN THE DISSEMINATION OF TSUAMNI INFORMATION.”
