DARIEN — The holiday rush led to the loss of $200 from the cash till of a local spa down an alleged robber’s pants and out the door of the business.
Just before 7 p.m. Dec. 26, police were called to Lanphier Day Spa, at 20 West Ave., at which point the owner complained about an alleged larceny that occurred four days earlier, according to a police report.
The owner told police the spa had been especially busy on Dec. 22 because of the upcoming holiday and, in response, a second register had been set up to store extra cash located in a small room adjacent to the spa’s main area, the report said.
Officers who responded were shown a surveillance video of the small side room and saw a white male enter the room, open the drawer, remove the cash and put it down his pants before exiting the building.
No employees of the spa reportedly recognized the man in the video. Darien police are investigating the incident.
