2 people killed, 1 critically injured during storm
Two people are dead and another in the hospital after an intense thunderstorm hit the area Tuesday.
A man, whose identity has not yet been released, was doing yard work at his residence in the Candlewood Lake area when he went into his car and a tree fell on it, killing him, Danbury Mayor Mark Boughton said in a phone interview late Tuesday night.
State Police also confirmed that a person was killed in Tuesday's storm when a tree struck the car the person was in on Brush Hill Road in New Fairfield. The identity of the victim has not been released yet.
Another person is at Danbury Hospital after being seriously injured at Henry Abbott Technical High School, Boughton said.
He said the roof of a building was knocked off from the wind and hit someone on a nearby field. He was unable to definitively say whether the person hit was a student or an athlete.
"They're in very serious condition. We're hoping they'll pull through," Boughton said. He had no further information on their condition.
