Colors to roll out at Push-n-Pull Parade
Families are invited to bring their children to the shopping center at 9:45 p.m., when Mary Ann Hall’s Music for Children will entertain the crowd.
The event, a parade of children riding bikes, scooters, wagons and other non-motorized vehicles, is hosted this year by Darien VFW Post 6933. The Post’s color guard will lead the parade with local and state officials. The event will also feature appearances by “Uncle Sam” and fire trucks from the Darien, Noroton and Noroton Heights fire departments.
There will be contests in several categories, including “best decorated” category for a vehicle with wheels, a “best decorated” category for a float; and a “most patriotic” dressed family category. Winners will be announced at 10:20 a.m., and they will lead the parade as Honorary Grand Marshals.
The parade travels down the Post Road and ends in Tilley Pond Park, where there will be food vendors and live entertainment by the Ray and Jay Band. There will also be a number of children’s activities taking place there, including face painting and a selection of removable children’s tattoos. This event is free and open to the public, with a suggested donation of $10 per family payable at Tilley Pond Park to benefit the Post’s current restoration of the former Chapel of Fitch’s Home for Soldiers and their Orphans (the first veterans’ home in the United States, which was was established in town just after the Civil War).
The title sponsor is MKM Partners, a Stamford-based institutional research, sales, and trading firm, with additional sponsorships from Land Rover Darien, Bruce Baker of William Pitt Sotheby’s International Realty, Darien-Rowayton Bank, Vernal’s Services Station, Maureen Bloom Playdates, LLC, Tiger Wealth Management, Dynamic Athletics, Mary Ann Hall’s Music for Children, Cultural Care Au Pair, the Ray and Jay Band, Urstadt Biddle Properties (the owners of the Goodwives Shopping Center), the Police Department of the Town of Darien, the Fire Departments of Darien, Noroton and Noroton Heights, and the Town of Darien.
