Darien LAX gives back
When it comes to Darien High School Lacrosse, there is a great history involving many people from current student players, their families, friends and coaches to alumni who have contributed, over the years, to the development of the successful programs they have become today. As Board of Education budgets for athletics are cut and the lacrosse teams continue to earn FCIAC and state honors, year after year, the support of these programs becomes a community issue. The alumni are a part of the community. The town looks to them not only for their playing ability and the pride they have brought to the DHS Lacrosse program, but also to reestablish their connection to DHS lacrosse.
Each year, both teams host an alumni game. An important result of this event is the connection that is strengthened among the alumni and their high school roots. In past years, alumni games were held in late spring after the post season tournaments had ended. This year, both boys and girls teams will be host the Alumni Game in the winter.
There is a $10 entrance fee per person (players and spectators) or an unwrapped toy. The proceeds of this event will be donated to Sloan Kettering Cancer Center/Joy Fund and the Paul Engemann Education fund. Toys will be donated to the Ronald McDonald House. DYLax third and fourth graders are invited to participate in the pre game activity. A reception for the players and their families will be held in the conference rooms upstairs.
SFH Program Development Director Stephanie Calabrese is working with coaches Lisa Lindley and Jeff Brameier and 2011 captains Emma Tuzinkiewicz, Emma Gettsinger, Baylis Treen, Eric Parnon and J.P. Walsh to coordinate this event. E-mail email@example.com with any questions.
