Beginning Sept. 3, the Darien YMCA will open earlier during the week and on the weekend.

The new hours will be Monday through Friday from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m., Saturday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

These hours will be 1.5 hours earlier weekdays, one hour earlier on Saturday and four hours earlier on Sunday. The Darien Planning and Zoning Commission approved the new hours on July 9 following a public hearing on June 18.

As a result of being located in a residential area, the YMCA is allowed to conduct its programs and services through provisions issued by the P&Z outlined in a detailed special permit. Hours of operation are one of the conditions of the special permit.

The modification of its hours will enable the YMCA to have better use of their facilities, reduce the intensity of use and better serve its members and the community. The earlier hours will also better accommodate the Darien High School swim team and early-morning commuters.

The Darien YMCA serves more than 10,000 individuals, families and seniors annually.
