The Darien boys track team took down rival New Canaan 94-56 in a key FCIAC Eastern Division matchup to open the season on Thursday.
"This was a big win for us," Darien coach Tyson Kaczmarek said. "We wanted to come out strong. We are banged up as a team. A lot of key guys have injuries right now. They are getting better, but we won't have them right away."
Leading the way for Darien was Nick Lombardo, who captured four of Darien's 11 wins on the day. Lombardo started the meet by winning the long jump with a mark of 20-6. Next, Lombardo claimed the 100 in 11.6 and the triple jump with a mark of 42-0, before winning the high jump at 6-0.

"We are going to get better as the season progresses," Kaczmarek said. "We know this so it's a matter of piecing everything together from here."
