The Darien School of Dance at the YWCA Darien/Norwalk recently celebrated its second annual spring showcase featuring more than 130 dancers from Darien and the surrounding communities. Founded by Brigita McLeod, director and ABT certified teacher, the school offers classes in pre-ballet, jazz, tap, mom & me and ballet with an emphasis on classical ballet training. The youngest ballerinas from mom & me class were baby swans dancing with professional ballerina and local resident Kristen Prescott.

Other classical excerpts from the most famous and not so famous ballets performed were "Sleeping Beauty," "Cinderella," "Coppelia," "Les Sylphides," "Flower Festival of Genzano" and "Rodeo." "

I wanted this to be an educational as well as an enjoyable experience for the children," McLeod said. "Dance education is not just about memorizing dance steps. Learning about and appreciating dance gives children a foundation for many lifelong benefits and skills."

Summer dance camp is planned for June and registration is underway for the fall session. Call 203-912-4804 or email for more information or visit
