
Darien girls hockey team falls to Ridgefield in first round of state tournament

Fresh off of its FCIAC championship victory over New Canaan, the Darien girls hockey team suffered a 4-1 loss against Ridgefield in the opening round of the eight-team state tournament at the Darien Ice Rink on Monday.
Darien's Georgia Cassidy scored first five and a half minutes into the game, assisted by Marissa Baker and Sage Thacher. Ridgefield fired back three minutes later with a goal by Maeve Reilly, who was assisted by Erica Ely.
In the second, Ridgefield took the lead on a goal by Lucy Wemyss with an assist by Reilly. Later in the period, Ridgefield boosted its lead to 3-1 when Ely scored after receiving a pass from Meghan Galloway.
Ridgefield sealed the win in the third period when Meredith Keenan set up Anna Marcus for a goal and a 4-1 lead.
Shannon Hall made 13 saves for Darien, and Heather Ogden made 30 saves for Ridgefield.
Darien completes its season as the FCIAC Champions with an overall record of 17-4-1.
