Darien men victims of identity theft
DARIEN — Two Darien residents were the victim of recent identity thefts involving Kay Jewelers and Verizon.
On Feb. 4, police received two reports of identity thefts from Darien men.
The first victim was a 56-year-old man who received a bill for a Kay Jewelers account opened in his name. According to the statement the man received, the account was opened Dec. 23 and a $4,642 purchase was made. The police suspect there was no local criminal activity and the account was linked to an address in Malden, Mass.
The second victim was a 76-year-old man who received a notice from Verizon, saying he reportedly opened three new cell phone lines. The man has no Verizon account and closed the lines. Police said there is no evidence of local criminal activity.
