Several musical ensembles from the Darien Public School received awards for their performances at the Music in the Parks Festival held at Lake Compounce in Bristol on Saturday, June 2. The groups performed for judges in the morning at New Britain High School and then enjoyed an afternoon in the park at Lake Compounce.

The following awards were received by the Darien ensembles:

Middlesex Middle School Jazz Ensemble - Superior Rating - First Place;

Darien All-Town Elementary Honors Orchestra - Superior Rating - First Place;

Middlesex Middle School 7/8 Orchestra - Excellent Rating - First Place;

Darien Elementary School Honors Band had 37 student musicians from all five elementary schools participating this year and traveled to Springfield, Mass., Saturday, May 19 to perform in the Music in the Parks Festival. They performed two difficult arrangements of "First Suite for Military Band" by Holst and "Academic Festival Overture" by Brahms. The students received high marks from the judges and enjoyed the afternoon at Six Flags in Agawam, Mass.

On Saturday, May 10, the DHS Concert Choir and Tudor Singers participated in the Great East Adjudicated Music Festival at West Springfield High School in West Springfield, Mass. Each ensemble performed three selections for a panel of judges, who then gave the choirs a brief review and performance clinic. The Concert Choir was awarded a gold rating for their performance and the Tudor Singers received a platinum rating, the highest level awarded.
