A Bridgeport man was handed over to federal agents after a routine stop for having an expired registration found an outstanding warrant.

Danilo Andrade, 23, of Bridgeport, was arrested Nov. 5 at 9:10 p.m. after an officer noticed his 1992 Honda Accord had an expired registration, police said. A further investigation revealed that the plates on his car did not belong to the Accord, police said.

After he was stopped, Andrade gave the officer a fake name and date of birth, police said. As he was being transported, however, he admitted he lied and provided his true name, police said.

He was charged with interfering with an officer, misuse of plates, driving without a license, failure to provide proof of insurance and operating an unregistered vehicle.

While being fingerprinted, officers discovered an outstanding warrant for Andrade for alien inadmissibility. The police contacted U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement who faxed a detainer and then picked Andrade up from the station. He was released on a promise to appear before being turned over to ICE agent, police said.
