DARIEN — A 55-year-old woman from Bridgeport allegedly drove drunk on Aug. 3.

Jeannette Bernhard, of Summit Street, was charged with driving while intoxicated and failure to drive right just after midnight, according to Darien police.

A Darien police officer traveling west on Tokeneke Road saw Bernhard turn left onto the road from Interstate 95 in a 2014 Toyota sedan. The officer said he saw the vehicle swerve in its lane and cross the double yellow line. The police officer followed the car onto the Post Road, where it continued straight in a left-turn only lane.

The officer pulled over the Toyota. As he spoke to the driver, the officer said he could smell alcohol. Bernhard failed a field sobriety test and was taken into custody. Her blood alcohol content was nearly double the legal limit, according to police.

She was released on $250 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Monday.
