Darien detectives are looking into a suspected theft of a motorboat, after a resident’s purchase was not delivered as promised on a cross country journey from a Wisconsin dealer, according to police.

A 22-year-old Darien woman reported to police this week she bought an 18-foot Bayliner and trailer from Rawhide Inc. in North London, Wisconsin, Darien Police Sgt. Jeremiah Marron said. The company is listed as an on-line dealer of collector cars, used boats, recreational vehicles and other items.

The woman then arranged through uship.com to pay $500 to J&S Enterprises to have the boat delivered to Darien, Marron said.

When the boat didn’t arrive within a reasonable time frame, the woman contacted Rawhide, who told her E&S Moving Systems of Mobile, Alabama, picked up the boat on May 28, Marron said.

The woman paid $7,682 for the boat and $1,921 for the trailer, Marron said.
