The 29th annual Southern Connecticut Open will be held at the Darien Ice Rink on April 19-21 and it will feature Darien resident Brooke Ferris. This figure skating event is sanctioned by the U.S. Figure Skating Association.

More than 350 skaters from all over the Northeast will compete in freestyle and dance events. Skaters of all ages, including adults, will compete in beginner up to senior levels.

The Skating Club of Southern Connecticut (SCSC) will welcome nearly 40 U.S. figure skating judges and officials to critique the skaters and complete the markings, which result in awards. The judges and officials, many of whom are sectional and national judges, travel from all over the country to participate.

SCSC skaters such as Ferris, Stamford's Brett Mayer, Madison Borsellino and Kathryn Berger will compete.

The public is invited to watch the skating with paid admission. Admission for the day is $7 for adults, $4 for seniors and children ages 6-12 and free for children 5 and under.

The schedule of events may be found on the club website at www.skatescsc.com. Events run all day and evening Friday and Saturday and through the afternoon Sunday.
