DARIEN — Darien schools remained open in the wake of a wind and rain storm that left many without power.

Darien public schools opened on time but with slight busing delays after Sunday night’s storm knocked out trees and wires in town. All school buildings had phone, computers, water and lights working, according to Superintendent Dan Brenner.

Eversource and the Darien Department of Public Works responded to help restore power to the approximately 800 people who lost it in the storm. As of 11:45 a.m. on Monday, only 144 of over 8,000 local Eversource customers were still without power in Darien.

According to Darien Police, Salem Straits, Mansfield Place, Old Farm Road, Circle Road and Beach Drive were closed Monday morning due to storm damage.
