A skateboarding boy sustained life-threatening injuries when he was struck by a car early Friday evening on West Avenue near the Little League fields in McGuane Park in Darien, according to Darien Police Sgt. Jeremiah Marron.

The youth, whose name and age have not been released, was transported to Stamford Hospital for treatment, according to Marron. The Darien Police Accident Investigation Team is investigating the accident, Marron said.

Police responded at 5:15 p.m. to the accident on West Avenue, just east of Edgerton Street, according to Marron.

The youth was riding his skateboard in the exit-only driveway of the baseball fields onto West Avenue into the path of traffic on West Avenue and was struck by a 2005 Pontiac G6 traveling west, according to Marron. The driver of the Pontiac was not injured in the crash, but his vehicle had minor damage, Marron said.

Due to the investigation, West Avenue between Noroton Avenue and Edgerton Street was closed for three hours Friday evening.
