The Special Education Parent Advisory Committee, Darien public schools and the Darien Library are co-sponsoring a screening of "The Big Picture: Rethinking Dyslexia" on Oct. 20 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Darien Library.

A panel discussion after the movie will include individuals featured in the film: Dr. Sally E. Shaywitz, the Audrey G. Ratner Professor in Learning Development, and Dr. Bennett A. Shaywitz, the Charles and Helen Schwab Professor in Dyslexia and Learning Development, both at the Yale University School of Medicine and co-directors of the Yale Center for Dyslexia & Creativity; the Lucas family, and school district administration.

This film provides accounts of the dyslexic experience from children, experts and leaders as a way to understand that dyslexia -- a persistent problem with learning to read -- can be as great an asset as it sometimes is an obstacle, according to publicity for the program.

Middle school children and older are invited to attend.

There will be two additional showings of the film only: a preview for parents at 9:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 17, and a family viewing at 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 25.
