Elderly Darien woman’s checks forged, cashed
DARIEN — Police are investigating an incidence of suspected forgery and counterfeiting after a man found irregularities in his elderly mother’s bank accounts.
The son of a 79-year-old Darien woman was checking his mother’s bank accounts and found five checks had been cashed, totaling $450. The man found this unusual and contacted the police on Jan. 22, as well as the home health-care company used by his mother, who lives on Hale Lane.
Police and the home health-care company are investigating the situation and believe they have a suspect responsible for forging the woman’s signatures on the checks and cashing them. Police said they are working on issuing a warrant for charges of larceny and forgery.
