Expert to speak on gifted and learning disabilities
Smart Kids with Learning Disabilities, Inc. announces a free program featuring Dr. Devon MacEachron who will discuss "Gifted and LD: Strengths and Challenges of Twice --Exceptional Learners." the talk will take place Thursday, March 29, from 7 to 9 p.m., at the Roger Ludlowe Middle School in Fairfield and it's co-sponsored by Fairfield PTA Council - Gifted & Talented Subcommittee and Fairfield SEPTA.
MacEachron, a school psychologist and co-director of the CT Center for Exceptional Children, will discuss recognizing and capitalizing on the unique gifts as well as remediating and accommodating the weaknesses of students with LD, ADHD and other challenges.
MacEachron earned her bachelor's degree from Amherst College, her M.B.A from The Wharton School, and her Ph.D. in school psychology from the University of California at Berkeley. She is a certified school psychologist in the states of Connecticut and California. MacEachron specializes in the needs of twice-exceptional students who are gifted and talented, but also have learning difficulties that may include learning disabilities, or who are struggling with motivation, and/or have attentional or executive function weaknesses.
She is the co-founder and director of psychoeducational assessment at the CT Center for Exceptional Learners in Madison. The center's mission is to uncover each student's unique profile of strengths, weaknesses, interests, and goals, and to tailor educational recommendations to help them achieve their full potential. MacEachron lectures and gives workshops nationally and internationally on learning differences, reading acquisition, and giftedness. She is a member of Smart Kids with Learning Disabilities' board of directors.
