Girls varsity lacrosse

The girls played Holy Child Wed., Apr. 20, winning 19-14. Leading the offense for the Dragons was senior Ingrid Backe (Fairfield) with three goals, junior Kate Paliotta (Westport) with six goals and two assists, and freshmen Nicole Humphrey (Darien) with five goals, Ella Murphy (Darien) with two goals and Alex Nesi (Fairfield) with one goal. Eighth grader Ashley Humphrey (Darien) dominated the draw and had two goals. Defense was led by junior Caroline Rintoul (Darien), sophomores Katie Mackle (New Canaan), Bella Litt (Darien) and Ryan Morris (Stamford), freshman Whitney Rintoul (Darien) and eighth grader Meg Nesi (Fairfield). The Dragons are now 6-0. 

Girls varsity tennis

The GFA girl's varsity tennis team split matches this week, losing to St. Luke’s and beating Hamden Hall.

Against St. Luke’s, co-captain sophomore Devon Wolfe (Darien) went 6-0, 6-1 No. 1 singles. At No. 2 singles, eighth grader Sarah Wagner (Westport) went 6-3, 6-2. At No. 3 singles, eighth grader Ryan Boyle (Southport) won 6-4, 7-5.

At Hamden Hall, Wolfe had 6-0, 6-0 win; Wagner went 6-1, 6-4; Boyle won 6-1, 6-1; and at No. 4, sophomore Kate Flicker (Fairfield) went 6-0, 7-5. In doubles, senior co-captain Lydia Picoli (Wilton) partnered for the first time with Allie Agnew (freshman, Westport), winning 7-5, 6-3. At No. 2 doubles, junior Brynley Close (Norwalk) and senior Nina Rodgers (Fairfield) held on to win 7-6(6), 6-1. Playing an eight game pro set at No. 3 doubles was junior Katie Metro (Westport) and sophomore Avery York (Norwalk) who won 8-1.

Boys varsity tennis

The boys varsity tennis team defeated Hamden Hall by a score of 6-1. The Dragons swept in singles with strong performances by: No. 1 singles, senior Cole Rummelsburg (Fairfield); No. 2 singles, junior Will Wappler (Rowayton); No. 3 singles, freshman Jack Wolfsohn (Easton); and No. 4 singles, sophomore Sean Minson (Darien), all winning in straight sets.

In No. 1 doubles junior Matt Smith (Purchase, N.Y.) and eighth grader Aidan Heflin (Greenwich) won 6-3, 6-2. At No. 2 doubles, JT McAllister (Norwalk) and eighth grader Jack Ramsey (Greenwich) won 6-4, 1-6, 6-4.

Varsity track

The Greens Farms boy's track and field team opened their season last week with meets at Wilton High School and Plainfield High School.

At Wilton, junior MJ Freeman (Milford) clocked in at 23.61 in the 200-meter dash. Both freshman Will McCall (Westport) and junior Aaron Miller (Stamford) finished the 400-meter dash with times of 56.60 to lead GFA.

At Plainfield, in the freshman only division, Ethan Phan (Bridgeport) finished fifth in the 100-meter dash (12.64) and fifth in the long jump (16-11.00). In the javelin, junior Thomas McGrade (Weston) took sixth place with a throw of 132-00. 

The GFA girl's track and field team began their season at Wilton as well. Freshman Katherine Marcus (Westport) 100-meter dash in 14.85. Freshman Kristiana Modzelewski (Westport) ran the 300 hurdles and crossed the line at 57.50.

At Plainfield, senior Maggie Boudreau (Wilton) placed sixth overall in the 3200 (12:10.72) and 16th in the 800-meter (2:39.70). Junior Olivia Sullivan (Norwalk) took first in the high jump (5-06) and fourth in the long jump (15-05.05). 

Boys varsity lacrosse

The Dragons opened the week with a tough one against South Kent, losing by a final score of 12-6. Against Chase Collegiate School, the Dragons took an early lead to win 19-9. Scoring three or more goals were: freshman Zach Liston (Wilton), senior Jack Mackle (New Canaan), senior Isaac Manton (Greenwich), and eighth grader Charlie Benson (Darien). The face-off was controlled by sophomore JC Foster (Darien), and the defense was led by freshman goalie Thomas Babcock (Westport).

Varsity softball

The GFA softball team lost a close game to Sacred Heart at home on Monday. Sophomores Alyssia Getschow (Westport) and Brook Bakish (New Canaan) each made a great catch in the outfield to get the team out of an inning. Juniors Kayla Hinkson-Grant (Fairfield) connected with Kallie Fellows (Fairfield) to get six outs from second base. Freshman Maddy Canning (New Canaan) struck out six. Freshman catcher Leah Attai (Bridgeport) had a single and a triple, and Getschow went 5-6, scoring four runs.

Varsity baseball

The Dragons faced the top 2 ranked teams in the FAA, last week, Brunswick and Rye Country Day School. GFA lost to Brunswick 14-0. Junior Mack Muller (Westport) went 2-3 and junior Tim Mira went 1-3. Senior Christian Rivera (Bridgeport) had a single.

Against Rye, the Dragons fell 9-3. GFA had three runs in the third inning, with a two-run homer by junior Mack Muller.

Varsity golf

GFA golf began the week on Monday with their first ever victory over FAA rival Rye Country Day School. Playing at the Apawamis Club in Rye, GFA had two individual wins from senior captain Samyukt Kumar (Stamford) and freshman Piero Panariello (Westport), along with two halves by freshman Giani Panariello (Westport) and seventh grader Will Lodge (Darien) to garner three points from the individual matches. Juniors Dustin Cook and Curtis Tauck (both of Westport) contributed to GFA's aggregate score to beat Rye by 11 strokes.

On Tuesday the team won over Masters 9-0. Junior captain Dustin Cook (Westport) earned Medalist honors. Kumar, Tauck, Giani Panariello, Piero Panariello and Lodge, all defeated their opponents to give GFA their fourth win on the season.

The team finished the week on Thursday with a 9-0 loss Brunswick. Piero Panariello had GFA's best round of the day, and only lost his match by a single stroke. GFA is now 4-3.

Varsity sailing

Tuesday, April 19, GFA raced at Grass Island in Greenwich against Greenwich High School, Brunswick School, and Fairfield Ludlow High School. GFA was represented by freshmen Griffin Segalla (Stamford) skippering for Alex Wagner (Southport), juniors Hobi Lew (Westport) skippering for Tyler Green (Westport), senior Caroline Booth (Westport) skippering for junior Will Costello (New Canaan), and senior Eliza Nixon (Rowayton) skippering for junior Joe Bentham (Old Greenwich). GFA lost its first match to Brunswick finishing 4, 5, 6 and 3, 5, 6. GFA fell to Greenwich High School finishing 4, 5, 6 and 3, 5, 6. Against FLHS, GFA won the first two races with the following finishes: 1, 3, 5 and 1, 2, 6, and losing the third race with 3, 4, and 6 finish.

Wednesday, April 20, GFA hosted Greenwich Academy and Darien High School at Pequot Yacht Club. GFA was represented by freshman Griffin Segalla (Stamford), sophomores Charlie Courtemanche (Norwalk), Weldon Marcus (Fairfield), juniors Noah Sonnenberg (Greenwich), Jack Sondag (Riverside), Booth, Bentham and Green. The first round was raced between GA and GFA, with GFA winning 1, 2, 5 and 1, 2, 3. In the next round, Darien beat GFA 1, 2, 5 and 1, 2, 6.

Ultimate frisbee

On Wednesday, April 20, GFA beat The Gunnery 15-4. The team got off to another fast start, jumping out to a 6-0 lead as playing time and contributions were spread across the entire roster. Sophomore Kai Klebes (Greenwich) had a strong offensive performance and scored several goals, while sophomore Liam King (Old Greenwich) set the tone with tight man-to-man defense.
