The Geary Gallery of Darien invites visitors to herald the new season with the sunny, impressionistic land and seascapes of two well-loved painters, Barbara Lussier and Jon Houglum, perfect to shed the doldrums of winter and welcome the blossoms of spring. Both painters are known for bringing sunlight and color to their canvases. This warm and inviting exhibit opens at the April 1 and runs until April 30.
Lussier explores the romance of light and color with her paintings, which are often described as "poetry." Her imagery of farmland, mountains, rocky shores and sandy beaches evoke the wonderful, bright, hopeful time of Spring in New England, and she is inspired by the mysteries and wonder of the sea, as well as the majesty and aesthetics of the wildflowers and trees of the area. Jon Houglum is a painter who has studied in the style of the old masters. His works bring wonder and majesty to the simple subjects of his country landscape. Houglum explained his style, "My goal in painting is to communicate the beauty of creation through the elements and principals of fine oil painting."
